Case study: Boosting safety – while staying on brand – at PrettyLittleThing’s Sheffield warehouse

Key information

When a safety system is this visible, people notice. And that’s exactly the point. But when it’s in bright pink, that’s a whole different animal.

In Sheffield, the CT Safety Barriers team proudly completed our latest project: safety barrier installation at PrettyLittleThing’s 615,000 sq ft distribution warehouse in Tinsley – in their brand colours.

Understanding the site

Large fashion distribution warehouses have a lot going on. They’re loud, busy, and vehicle routes run close to people working on foot.

At PrettyLittleThing’s site, all this activity happens across a wide, open floor.

Racking aisles, pallet storage, packing stations, and internal traffic lanes sit side by side. Painted floor lines provide guidance, but they do not offer protection.

This site needed a physical solution to strengthen staff safety while working with the existing layout.

This brief was simple. Reduce the risk of vehicle contact, protect pedestrians, and make safe routes obvious at a glance.

The barrier layout

We supplied and installed a combination of warehouse protection barriers and safety handrail systems across key areas of the warehouse floor.

The layout follows real working routes. Walkways run alongside racking, wrap cleanly around structural columns, and continue through open areas used by pallet trucks and tugs. Corners and ends are added where vehicle movements naturally tighten, helping reduce accidental contact during manoeuvres.

A pink powder-coated finish is used throughout, in line with the PLT branding. This provides long-term durability while standing out clearly against the concrete floor, stock, and machinery.

Installation considerations

Installing barriers in a busy warehouse calls for a controlled, practical approach.

Armco Barriers allow sections to be fixed securely into the concrete floor while keeping installation efficient.

Posts are base-plated and evenly spaced, with consistent rail heights and tidy connections. Handrail sections around columns and work areas maintain continuous protection without creating awkward gaps or pinch points.

Once installed, the barriers sit naturally within the space. They guide movement, protect key areas, and allow the warehouse to operate as normal.

The outcome on the warehouse floor

The finished system delivers physical separation where it matters most. Pedestrian routes are clearer, vehicle lanes are better defined, and vulnerable areas around racking and packing stations gain reliable protection.

In practical terms, this helps to:

  • Separate people and vehicles using physical barriers rather than visual markings
  • Protect stock, racking, and structural elements from low-level impact
  • Guide pedestrian movement across a large, open warehouse
  • Maintain safety controls that are clear, durable, and easy to understand

This project shows how a well-planned barrier layout improves safety without adding complexity or slowing operations.

A practical approach to warehouse safety

All CT Safety Barriers systems are manufactured in the UK at our Yorkshire facility, built for industrial environments where reliability and clarity matter. The focus stays on practical protection, solid installation, and layouts shaped around how sites actually work.

If you are reviewing pedestrian safety in a warehouse or distribution centre, our team can help you plan a barrier system that fits your operation and stands up to daily use.
